From Partners to Parents: Supporting Couples Through the Transition to Parenthood
The transition to parenthood can be one of the most significant—and stressful—developmental shifts a couple will experience. Even well-resourced couples with strong relational skills often find themselves overwhelmed by changes in identity, intimacy, communication, and caregiving roles. Drawing from attachment theory, developmental psychology, trauma-informed care, and couple therapy models (e.g., Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method), the training will offer conceptual frameworks, clinical tools, and reflective strategies for supporting couples through the emotional, physical, and relational upheavals of early parenthood.

Learning Objectives
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to identify and describe common relational stressors experienced by couples during the transition to parenthood
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to identify and assess the presence of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) within the context of relational dynamics.
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to apply at least three evidence-informed interventions or strategies to help couples maintain connection and navigate relational shifts in the perinatal period.
