Learning Objectives

  • Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to list and define the core family roles commonly observed in systems affected by substance use disorders (e.g., scapegoat, hero, lost child, enabler).
  • Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to explain the basic principles of Motivational Interviewing and identify two strategies for engaging family members in treatment.
  • Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to list three key considerations when discussing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with individuals and their families.
