While religious organizations and mental health professionals continue to expand their knowledge and understanding of the longitudinal impacts of childhood clergy sexual abuse, less attention has been focused on sexual relationships between clergy and adult parishioners, and the institutions tasked to reprimand unholy alliances. The proposed workshop stands to help participants deepen their understanding of the multifaceted dynamics associated with ACSA. Participants will explore trauma-informed therapeutic techniques and ethical considerations to equip participants with the skills necessary to support and advocate for survivors effectively. Through an interactive lecture, case studies, and experiential learning activities, this workshop aims to provide a holistic approach to addressing the trauma of ACSA. Learning Objectives
- By the end of the first hour of the workshop, participants will be able to critically analyze and explicate at least three multifaceted psychological, emotional, spiritual, and ethical dimensions of adult clergy sexual abuse by formulating a written definition.
- At the midpoint of the workshop, participants will be able to identify at least two trauma-informed therapeutic methodologies and ethical frameworks in a simulated therapy session with a peer, demonstrating their effectiveness in a 20-minute role-play.
- By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to rigorously evaluate the ethical considerations and efficacy of at least three intervention strategies when advocating for victims of adult clergy sexual abuse.
